# One Minute Voice WarmUp

> Vocal warmups in a minute

One Minute Voice WarmUp is a set of one-minute vocal exercises with video tutorials, created by vocal coaches Dr Gillyanne Kayes and Jeremy Fisher, hosts of the This Is A Voice podcast, for warming up the voice before speaking or singing.

A warm-up is the first thing dropped when there is no time — and the thing a voice about to speak or sing all day needs most.

## Who wrote the exercises?

The exercises are written, demonstrated and recorded by [Vocal Process](https://vocalprocess.co.uk/) — Dr Gillyanne Kayes and Jeremy Fisher, voice coaches on The Voice UK, authors of the book *This Is A Voice* and hosts of [the podcast of the same name](https://thisisavoice.buzzsprout.com/). They went through the book’s 99 exercises on [the Guardian’s science podcast](https://www.theguardian.com/science/audio/2016/may/06/how-do-human-voices-work-podcast). Speechtools built the app around their programme; the voice teaching is theirs.

- **1 minute** — the time it takes to carry out each exercise (measured)
- **Kayes & Fisher** — wrote, recorded and demonstrated every exercise (external)

## How do I choose what to practise?

- **Build your own** — Pick from breath, tension, tongue and clear speech exercises.
- **WarmUp of the week** — A ready-made sequence, so there is nothing to choose before starting.
- **One exercise at a time** — Each exercise is a minute, with a diagram and audio to follow.

## Who needs a vocal warm-up?

This one is for people whose work depends on their voice lasting, rather than for a clinical population — though therapists use it with clients too.

- **Singers and performers** — Warming up before rehearsal or a performance
- **Teachers and speakers** — Anyone who uses their voice all day for work
- **Call handlers and presenters** — Voices that have to last a full shift
- **Voice therapy clients** — Practising warmups between sessions

## Common questions

### How long does a warmup take?

Each exercise runs about a minute. A full weekly warmup is a short sequence of them.

### What is in the app?

Exercises in five sections: breath control, releasing tension, tongue exercises, clear speech, and using your voice in a way that holds attention. Each one targets a different part of how a voice is produced.

### Is every exercise demonstrated?

Yes. Each one comes with a video tutorial showing how to do it and explaining why it works, so there is no guessing from a written description.

### Do I have to choose an exercise every time?

No. There is a new WarmUp of the week ready to start, and you can also combine up to five favourites into a sequence of your own.

### Is there a subscription?

No. One Minute Voice WarmUp is a one-off purchase — you buy it once and there is nothing further to pay.

### How much does it cost?

The current price is shown on the App Store and Google Play, in your own currency. Follow either badge on this page to see it.

### Is the app available in my language?

One Minute Voice WarmUp is in English only. The exercises are demonstrated and recorded in English too.
